  Event Information

This year’s Fitting Out Dinner will take place at Watermens’ Hall. The venue is magnificent and this will be the first visit by our Club.

Our speaker will be Air Vice Marshal Tony Stables. Tony had a very distinguished career in the Royal Air Force and now lives on the Isle of Wight where he is still a very busy man – he is a trustee of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Manager of the Needles Coast Watch Station and the Commodore designate of Yarmouth Sailing Club. However, it is his time in command of number 18 Squadron RAF during the Falklands War that we have asked him to speak about. Tony’s Squadron was equipped with Chinook heavy lift helicopters and was shipped south at the start of the war. Air and ground crews sailed in one of the troop ships and the helicopters and supporting equipment were sent on board the container ship Atlantic Conveyor. As many will know Atlantic Conveyor was lost and most of the cargo went down with the ship. Only a very small proportion of Tony’s assets were saved but still made a major contribution to retaking the Falklands. We will leave it to Tony to describe the events that followed including some not widely known. AVM Stables is an excellent speaker and we are in for a fascinating evening.

Tickets are £125 per head including a fizz reception, three course meal with wines, port, coffees and chocolate truffles.
