CLYC are delighted to be supporting the City Livery Sailing Challenge again this year, which is due to take place from 11 – 12 September 2026. After last year’s successful launch of the event, this year’s is looking to be even more popular.
The event is open to all Livery Companies to send at least one team of 4 to compete in one of Sea View Yacht Club’s famous Mermaids, which have been a feature of the Solent for over a 100 years. Mermaids are 26-foot, half open keelboats with built in buoyancy, and each boat is painted in a unique colour. This makes for a fantastic vista when the boats are all out racing, particularly when they have their spinnakers up!
Plans for the weekend will be Dinner and Drinks at the Sea View Yacht Club on the Friday evening, racing through the morning and afternoon on Saturday with teams alternating boats, followed by a more formal Reception and Prizegiving at Sea View Yacht Club on Saturday evening. The racing fleet will be divided depending upon the number of Livery Companies who enter, though you will be provided with a timetable of racing on entry.
There is the ability for your team to have a practise on the Mermaids on Friday 11 September, to make sure you can be on top form for the racing the following day! If you would like to take up this opportunity, you will need to please let the organisers know when entering the event.
