The highlight of the Club’s year the Annual inter-Livery Regatta at Cowes where entrants battle it out for the Lord Mayor’s Cup. This year will be the 57th anniversary of the Inter-Livery Regatta, in the City Livery Yacht Club’s 70th year!
Racing action will take place on the Saturday and there will be (hopefully) two races. This year you will see the option on your entry form of a potential Sunday morning race, which will start and finish off Cowes breakwater, but there will be no need for competitors to come into Cowes. Please note, the Sunday morning race will only take place if there is enough interest from competitors. This year our Race Officer and Race Team will be operating out of RORC.
After the popularity of last year, this year again sees the inclusion of Sonars in the event, with a separate start, race, and trophy up for grabs. The Sonars will be hired from the Island Sailing Club via CLYC. Please specify ‘Sonar’ as the Boat Design/Type on the booking form if you are intending to hire one for the Regatta. There is a limit on the number of Sonars available, so please enter early to ensure your use of one.
Whilst the event has traditionally been white sails only, Skippers this year may elect to use spinnakers or a downwind sail during the racing. This must be declared to the CLYC Club Secretary or Race Officers no later than midday on 1st May 2026, and that declaration will be final whether or not the sail is actually used during the racing. Spinnaker or downwind sails will impact the handicap used for the boat.
Each boat entering the Inter-Livery Regatta will be required to have a YTC Handicap in order to participate, and the Race Officers will use this handicap system to calculate the results of the racing. This is free of charge to obtain and currently has a circa 10 day turnaround time from the point of application.
Berths – The weekend of the Regatta is a very busy one in Cowes, with several other events taking place. We have reserved berths within Cowes Yacht Haven and these will be allocated on the basis of access need, size, and first come first served. You may be rafted alongside other boats in these locations. Please ensure you state any special access needs on your entry form. If you do not include a request for a berth on your entry form, one will not be allocated to you.
The Notice of Race can be found – HERE
The Sailing Instructions can be found – HERE
The entry fee for each yacht is £100.00 (a reduced fee of £50.00 is included in the Sonar hire cost).

This year the featured Charity of the Inter-Livery Regatta is the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI). The NCI is a fantastic charity running watchkeepers around the coast to keep a visual watch on water users, monitor radio channels, and provide a listening watch in poor visibility. Where a watchkeeper may identify a water user in trouble, they will alert HM Coastguard and direct the appropriate emergency response to the area. Watches are kept year round by around 2700 highly-trained volunteers at 60 stations around the country, and those volunteers come from all walks of life.
We have received an invitation for attendees of the Inter-Livery Regatta (either competitors when they are not racing, or spectators) to tour of one of the stations on the Isle of Wight (the Needles or Bembridge). You will see a question on the entry form as to which day you would find best to undertake such a tour, if this is of interest to you.
BOOKING IS NOW CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT
Non CLYC members should email the Club Secretary to request bank details for a BACs payment or a for a Payment Link if that option is selected.
